Fellowships are business competitions that are designed to identify, encourage, and support start-up businesses and early stage entrepreneurs in developing their business ideas. The Freetown Fellowship presents an opportunity to further develop the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Sierra Leone; connect with social innovators across the country and in the diaspora; provide seed funding and/or access to sources of finance; and create a unique opportunity for a cohort of innovative and promising entrepreneurs in Sierra Leone.
The goal is to attract, select, and support impact entrepreneurs and help them realize their innovative ideas for a more sustainable world. The fellowship consists of three phases: Campaign, Cohort, and Incubation. Through a rigorous process, judges select the best entrepreneurs who go through an incubation program. They are assigned business development advisors who work with them to research and expand their business models, develop informed financial plans, curate a marketing strategy, and pitch to investors. The best entrepreneurs receive seed funding to be used for their proposed ideas.
